Back in July 2023, Opera announced that Opera GX, its gamer-oriented web browser, includes a feature called Fake My History.
In short, this feature will replace any otherwise unsavory browsing entries with a set of clean browsing entries. Once enabled, this feature will automatically take effect after 14 days of inactivity on Opera GX.
One of the reasons why this feature proves useful is that it’s a much better choice than simply clearing your web browser’s history. For example, anyone who pries into your browser history will find large gaps of missing entries very suspicious, especially when they know you’re surfing the internet all day.
The idea behind the 14-day timeframe takes into account the possibility that something unfortunate has happened to you. How to Use Opera GX’s Fake My History
To enable Fake My History, simply follow these steps:
- Launch Opera GX.
- Press Ctrl + H to open your browsing history.
- Click on Redeem my soul in the top-right corner of the context menu.
You’ll now be prompted with a confirmation message that gives you a better understanding of what Fake My History does.
You will now have two choices:
- Press Activate and Fake My History will take effect as described above.
- Press Pretend I’m already dead, and Opera GX will instantly change your browser history, without needing to wait for 14 days.
